Responsible Designing in Warsaw, Poland
Michelle Berryman will be a speaker and panel moderator on the subject of “Responsible Designing” at the International Conference on Innovation and Creativity of Women for Economic Development – Designing Quality of Life in a Modern Economy in Warsaw, Poland, March 22-23, 2012. The event is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (PPO), the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM) and the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The conference will be the fifth event of a series of annual conferences on Women’s Contribution to Innovation and Creativity. The conference will address the following topics:
• Promote innovation, creativity and intellectual property (IP) as a power tool for economic development amongst women;
• Promote the innovative and creative work of women in science and business;
• Raise awareness among the targeted group on IP-related issues and industrial design;
• Promote the active use of the IP system, in particular the Hague system for the protection of industrial designs.
Remote Monitoring & Automation Conference
Dover Fluid Management will be hosting a Remote Monitoring & Automation Conference in Nashville, TN, on September 20-22, 2011. This event will be held in conjunction with the Remote 2011 Monitoring & Control Conference and Expo, focusing on technology and innovation in multiple industries including utilities, infrastructure, power, oil and gas, telecom, industrial, water and public utilities, agriculture, remote networks and facilities management. Michelle Berryman will be delivering a presentation to Dover executives titled “Technology Isn’t Seductive. The Experience Should Be.” The presentation will introduce user experience design as a value driver that increases market share, reduces customer support needs and builds brand equity with users.
UX Design in a Surgical Environment

UX Australia 2011
Congratulations to Vicki Haberman and Michelle Berryman for being selected as speakers at the UX Australia conference in Sydney in August. They will be presenting, User Experience Design in a Surgical Environment, in which they will discuss and identify many of the challenges they have encountered while working in this environment as researchers and designers. They will offer practical advice, interesting visuals and an engaging story or two as well. Finally, they will explain why they believe this is the most exciting and meaningful arena for a user experience designer.
Design Turkey 2010 – Responsible Design Conference
As part of the Design Turkey 2010 event in Istanbul, Michelle Berryman spoke at a conference on Responsible Design. The conference goal was to discuss and celebrate the “benefits of design for society” and “the social responsibility of designers.” Michelle’s presentation, Five Tenets of Responsible Design in the Digital Domain, discussed the mandate designers have in the digital realm to embrace different perspectives, create opportunities for users, encourage engagement, protect user privacy and, above all else, enable delightful experiences.

USPTO Design Day Conference
The United States Patent and Trademark Office, in conjunction with the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), invited Michelle Berryman to participate as a speaker in their USPTO Design Day conference in Washington, DC. The conference was attended by US Design Patent Examiners, Intellectual Property Attorneys and designers. Using the IDEA Awards and Design & Business Catalyst Awards as examples, Michelle addressed the value and power of design as a competitive tool and market differentiator.
Street Food Presentation at Atlanta Pecha Kucha
Michelle Berryman gave Atlanta Pecha Kucha a bit of a cultural shock with her documented photos of street food from her trips to Asia in 2005 and 2007. She was one of nine presenters in the Volume Three Spring Session. Check out the presentation on iTunes.
